While unemployment in Australia is currently at 5.7%, Youth unemployment has recently reached a staggering 17.9%!!!
We don't want a return to the bad old days of the early 90's where youth unemployment peaked at over 25%, but it seems that we are heading this way fast and what have Kevin Rudd and Labor done about it?
Their solution to youth unemployment has been to force young people into training, whilst at the same time discouraging young Australians from attending university by increasing the amount we have to earn before becoming eligible for the independent rate of Youth Allowance.
Labor's industrial relations changes will make it less feasible for employers to employ young people and their unprecedented spending splurge has plunged Australia deep into debt, with little thought to the taxpayers of the future. We will be the ones who have to pay back this debt through higher taxes and a less prosperous economy in the future.
Since being elected to office Rudd and Gillard have not created a single job for young people in Australia. This is not a government in touch with the needs of the young people of Australia.
